Heating & Air Conditioning in Piedmont, CA

A comfortable Piedmont home needs more than equipment that turns on. Central heating and cooling depend on the furnace or heat pump, air conditioner, thermostat, blower, ductwork, and the way air moves between rooms. When one part is not working properly, you may notice a cold upstairs bedroom, weak airflow, longer operating cycles, or a system that cannot maintain the temperature you set.

Harry Clark Heating & Air Conditioning provides residential heating and air conditioning in Piedmont, CA, including repair, maintenance, installation, and replacement. Our services cover furnaces, central air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless mini splits, and related comfort components.

Call (510) 444-1960 or request heating and cooling service. Describe what the system is doing and which rooms are affected so the appointment starts with the comfort problem you want to solve.

Central Heating and Cooling for Piedmont Homes

Two homes with similar equipment can have very different comfort problems. An older duct system may no longer match a remodeled floor plan. A return grille may be blocked by furniture. A thermostat may reach its setting while a shaded bedroom stays cold. Equipment condition, air distribution, insulation, and controls all influence the result.

That is why the first question is not always which unit to replace. It is whether the equipment is producing the expected heating or cooling, and whether that output reaches the rooms that need it. Understanding both sides helps separate a repair need from a distribution problem or a replacement decision.

Air Conditioning Services

Warmer afternoons and periods of summer heat can reveal cooling problems that are less noticeable during mild weather. An air conditioner that runs continuously, leaves rooms warm, freezes, or develops unusual sounds needs its operation evaluated. The cause may involve airflow, electrical components, controls, coils, or the refrigerant circuit.

Air Conditioning Repair

A cooling complaint does not identify a failed part by itself. Warm air at the vents, for example, can have several causes. Our air conditioning repair addresses active problems through diagnosis of the equipment and the conditions affecting performance. Tell us whether the issue occurs throughout the home or mainly in one room.

Air Conditioning Installation and Replacement

A new cooling system should fit the home’s cooling demand, ductwork, electrical service, and existing heating equipment where components are shared. With air conditioning installation and replacement, equipment selection should account for sizing, airflow, compatibility, and startup testing. A larger unit is not automatically a better solution for uneven temperatures.

Seasonal Cooling Maintenance

Inspection and cleaning can help identify restrictions and operating changes before cooling is needed more frequently. Seasonal air conditioning maintenance focuses on equipment condition, airflow, controls, and relevant performance checks. It supports ongoing care but does not prevent every failure or guarantee a particular reduction in electricity use.

Heating and Furnace Services

Piedmont’s cool mornings and winter evenings still make dependable heating important. A furnace may operate only intermittently for part of the year, then reveal an ignition, blower, or control problem when regular use resumes. Describe changes in startup, sound, airflow, and room temperature when requesting help.

Furnace Troubleshooting

Furnace service may involve ignition, burners, blower operation, airflow, thermostat communication, electrical components, safety controls, or venting. A furnace that will not start, produces cool air, or shuts down repeatedly needs the cause investigated.

Our furnace repair addresses those active operating problems and helps establish whether a targeted correction is appropriate. Repeatedly resetting a system that shuts down can leave the underlying fault unresolved.

Furnace Installation and Replacement

Age alone does not determine whether a furnace needs replacement. Condition, repair history, safety findings, parts availability, and the home’s heating needs all matter. When replacement is appropriate, furnace installation and replacement should account for heating demand, duct capacity, thermostat compatibility, venting, and startup testing. New equipment cannot automatically correct a leaking duct or an insulation gap.

Preventive Heating Maintenance

A working furnace still benefits from a review of its condition and operation. Preventive furnace maintenance can include inspection, cleaning as appropriate, airflow review, and checks of controls and operating functions. An active no-heat problem or repeated shutdown should be described as a repair concern when scheduling, rather than assuming a routine tune-up will resolve it.

Heat Pumps for Heating and Cooling

A heat pump can serve both heating and air conditioning needs. It transfers heat rather than using the same heating process as a furnace, and its operation changes with the selected mode and outdoor conditions. Equipment sizing, airflow, controls, and electrical planning remain important to performance.

Heat Pump Repair

A system that cools but will not heat, struggles in one mode, or cycles unusually needs testing suited to heat pump operation. Heat pump troubleshooting and repair may involve electrical components, the refrigerant circuit, mode controls, airflow, or other operating functions. The symptoms help guide which parts of the system need evaluation.

Heat Pump Installation

For homeowners comparing replacement options, heat pump installation offers a way to address heating and cooling together. The comparison should consider the existing ductwork, available electrical service, room comfort, and any other equipment being retained. Choosing a system involves the complete installation rather than one efficiency rating.

Heat Pump Maintenance

Because a heat pump may operate in both seasons, service history should account for heating and cooling use. Routine heat pump maintenance provides an opportunity to review filters, coils, airflow, controls, and performance. Report a change in either mode, even if the system still operates acceptably in the other.

Ductless Mini Split Systems

An addition, home office, or room without suitable ductwork may need a different approach from the central system. Ductless mini splits can provide heating and cooling to selected spaces, but indoor unit placement, room demand, outdoor equipment location, and drainage affect how well they work.

Mini Split Installation

With ductless mini split installation, planning should consider where occupants spend time, how air will reach the room, and whether one or several zones are needed. A room-by-room system can be useful, but its suitability depends on the property and the comfort goal.

Mini Split Repair

Poor temperature control, unexpected water leakage, unusual noise, or a unit that will not respond needs investigation. Mini split repair addresses those symptoms using checks appropriate to the equipment, including controls, airflow, drainage, and heating or cooling performance.

Why Piedmont Homes Can Have Uneven Temperatures

Older residences near Piedmont Park, homes along Moraga Avenue, and hillside properties can differ substantially in layout, exposure, insulation, and equipment access. Multi-level homes may have rooms that warm or cool at different rates. A sunny upper floor and a shaded lower room may need attention to distribution and controls as well as equipment output.

Remodeling can also change the relationship between the home and its HVAC system. An enclosed space or added bedroom may increase demand without a corresponding duct change. Window and insulation upgrades may reduce demand. Mention those improvements when discussing repair or replacement so recommendations reflect the current property.

These conditions help explain why a new unit does not always solve every comfort complaint. Identifying where performance is limited gives the homeowner a more useful starting point.

Choosing Between Repair, Maintenance, and Replacement

Repair investigates an active fault. Maintenance reviews an operating system and supports preventive care. Replacement involves selecting and installing equipment suited to the home. Each has a different purpose, and the right choice depends on what the inspection shows.

Ask what failed, what the proposed work includes, and which concerns may remain afterward. For replacement estimates, discuss sizing, modifications, controls, startup checks, and documented warranty terms. Cost and scheduling depend on equipment, access, scope, and parts availability, so those details belong in the service discussion.

Piedmont Heating and Cooling Questions

What heating and cooling systems does Harry Clark service?

Harry Clark provides services for furnaces, central air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless mini splits, thermostats, ductwork, and related residential comfort components.

Why is one floor less comfortable than the other?

Floor-to-floor differences can involve sun exposure, insulation, duct routing, return-air pathways, thermostat location, or equipment operation. A system evaluation can help distinguish a heating or cooling fault from a distribution or building-condition problem.

Should I replace a system because it is old?

Age is one consideration, but condition, safety, repair history, parts availability, and performance also matter. An isolated fault may be repairable, while repeated failures or a major component problem may justify replacement planning.

Can a heat pump provide both heating and air conditioning?

Yes. A heat pump can provide both functions. Whether it fits a particular home depends on heating and cooling demand, electrical service, system configuration, controls, and installation conditions.

What should I tell you when requesting service?

Describe the symptoms, when they occur, which rooms are affected, and whether the equipment still runs. Mention recent thermostat changes, filter replacement, remodeling, or previous repairs if they relate to the problem.

Had Harry Clark add AC to our property (heat pump install integrated with a newer gas furnace) - they were super easy to work with and got through a relatively challenging install in good time. Felt like their pricing was reasonable as well, also like that they're a local East Bay company. They were very honest and open about options on how to add AC whereas others were pushing for a full replacement with heat pump. Will definitely be using them for any future work as well.

We took advantage of the free design services for a heat pump heating system offered by QuitCarbon. After completing their home assessment questionnaire they gave us sizing, pricing and rebate information. QC referred us to Harry Clark Heating and Air Conditioning for a complete upgrade to replace our gas furnace. HC owner Don Marshall spent an hour and a half assessing the existing heating system in our 1908 home, answering all our questions and providing a detailed quote for a two zone system the next day. After reviewing the quote with QuitCarbon, we decided the price was competitive and chose not to get other bids. I should mention that I’m a licensed mechanical engineer and have lots of experience working with contractors. Armando Hernandez and his crew completed the install in one week and we were up and running on day 5. The quality of the workmanship was excellent. Armando addressed my many questions and was a pleasure to work with. There was an issue with a defective part in the air handler. The project manager Matt Schwoyer was able to resolve it with their supplier, and the part was replaced the following week. Everyone at Harry Clark was professional and responsive throughout the whole project. We are pleasantly surprised with the improved and consistent comfort level in our home and would recommend HC to anyone considering a heat pump retrofit.

Harry Clark did an excellent job of replacing my aging gas furnace with a hybrid heat pump. They also provided me with zoning which I didn't have before. Everything is working great and they did a good job.

certain things like paying taxes, root canals and colonoscopies come with being a grown up. every adult has had to replace a furnace or air conditioning system. last week my heat wouldn’t come on and a repairman came out to fix it. he told me the unit needs to be replaced to the tune of $6,500. being a trusting individual, as i lowered my trousers so they could shove the hoses up my butt, i called Harry Clark for a second opinion. Harry agreed the furnace is old and will eventually need to be replaced but the reason it wasn’t working is the thermostat. he changed the filter and replaced the thermostat. thanks to Harry Clark, i feel like a kid again.

I had an older gas heater under my cottage that 4 other vendors claimed was unfixable. I froze all last winter because I couldn't afford to have a new $16, 000 heater installed. Then my brother called Harry Clark here in July to see if by any chance they had any ideas and they sent out BP (their top repair expert) and he repaired it. Then Oscar came out and repaired an old rusted exaust flue. Everyone was great to work with. Most importantly I get to look forward to winter this year without utter dread. Electric heater don't work to keep a house warm. I'm so gratedful. Thanks to everyone at Harry Clark. What a great company. I recommend them 100% Best, Robert
